It's just a theory, but here goes
Recently, I was researching a plant called Silvervine. It's essentially a Japanese catnip plant. The difference from traditional American catnip is that Silvervine is not a mint, and it has two cat attractants instead of one, and it's supposed to get more intense cat reactions.(I'm totally buying some for my cat. I found Silvervine toys on Amazon.)
While I was researching these plants using Google, I came across some scientific statements where the scientists stated they didn't know why cats were attracted to them... They knew there were chemicals in the plant that attracted cats. They just didn't know why cats were attracted to them, or why they were in the plant. As I read this stuff, I thought to myself "What if God made them that way? What if these plants were meant for cats to eat before the fall of man? What if the fall of man is why these plants are technically kitty drugs now?"
That's my theory. Right there. Catnip and Silvervine were originally intended to be the food for cats before the fall of man. After the fall of man, they kept their properties that attract cats and became kitty drugs because of sin. These plants have health benefits for the cats who play with them, which supports the theory.

An... INTERESTING conclusion. My cat would lick plastic over Catnip any day. She's a weird furball.

You could try Silvervine if your cat doesn't respond to the traditional American nip. Cats that don't respond to catnip sometimes respond to Silvervine. reactions vary from cat to cat. There's a possibility that your cat won't react to Silvervine, but that really depends. I think there are more plants that cats react to as well(Valerian, Honeysuckle ect.) The research on the subject was interesting and fun. So was theorizing. My theory could be wrong, but it just makes sense to me that plants that currently attract and cause drug-like reactions in cats would've been the original cat food. God originally created animals to eat plants, not each other. The fall resulted in animals hunting animals

Right. I never thought the theory was stupid, it's just interesting. Sadly, this theory does not answer why my cat licks plastic.

The question is: What answers more questions, The Bible, or Google.

That's a very good question. They both have answers for many things..

Upon further research on this subject, I've learned that whether a cat reacts to catnip or not depends on if they've been born with a specific gene.
This points to cats being created after the plants, which is actually what the Bible states. God specifically created cats to eat catnip. The fall is likely why not every cat has the gene that causes them to take interest. However, I'm unsure of this is also the case with other plants that attract cats. I'm probably going to be turning over this study to ICR.. They don't have anything on this stuff on their site. This needs to be fixed.
According to Scientists, Catnip is not a drug for cats because it's non-toxic, and it's not addictive. My observations of cats who react to catnip which are repeatable state otherwise. It's a cat drug. The fact that it's not toxic to cats and cats don't get addicted to it doesn't make it any less of a cat drug. Cats on catnip often behave like they're on crack. These observations shouldn't be ignored because it's non-toxic and doesn't cause addiction.
The evidence of cats originally being herbivores doesn't stop here. Cats love plants in general, and this observation has been made by several people who own cats. It's why you shouldn't get a house plant that is toxic to your cat. Cats love to eat house plants.
